Camera Movement

Just some camera movements that have stood out to me over the years. I love camera movement and love when directors take advantage of them.

Pull Back Reveal - Psycho

The pull back reveal featured in Psycho starts off with a  close up on Marion Crane's life-less eye and pulls back to reveal her laying on the bathroom floor. There is something haunting about the extreme close-up on the eye and the reveal to see how brutally Marion Crane was murdered and how she was left vulnerable.

Tracking Shot - The Shining

I love tracking shots and it is my favorite thing about Kubrick's style. His films give a sense of the geography of the settings with the movements following characters. This one is also iconic! There is a lot of suspense with the camera following Danny around the Overlook Hotel. The audience also doesn't know what is around the corner and get some of Danny's perspective.

Pull Back Retraction - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The pull back retraction from this scene stood out to me even when I saw this in theaters when I was 11 years old. I think it is effective because it shows what Harry and Sirius were up against. The dementors circling the pair gives off a predatory feel.
